Arrest after man stabbed

POLICE are going house to house in the Ceredigion village of Borth as they investigat­e the stabbing of a pensioner.

The incident happened near Borth Wild Animal Kingdom at around 9.50am yesterday.

A 71-year-old man was attacked while walking his dogs in the vicinity of the Animalariu­m. The pensioner was airlifted to hospital with injuries described as “serious”.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

Detective Inspector Jon Rees, who is the senior investigat­ing officer, said: “There has been a heavy police presence in Borth since this morning and officers remain in the village this afternoon to carry out house to house inquiries and establish more informatio­n about the attack.

“We made a swift arrest following the report to us and I would like to reassure the community we are not looking for anyone else at this time.

“I understand this is a concerning incident and would encourage anyone who is worried to speak to any police officer or PCSO in the area, who will be happy to help you.”

Borth Wild Animal Kingdom have said that customers were not able to access the lions yesterday due to the incident.
