Britain will survive because it always has

- Mike Hurn LLandevaud, Newport

YET again, politicians have filibustered their way to a delay on Brexit.

That is politicians of all flavours, but most with their eyes on their own agenda, like building a dynasty in Brussels, or keeping their backers sweet.

Jeremy Corbyn has his own problems within his own party and is happy just dropping hand grenades here and there, just to keep the heat off his throne. Conservative renegades will need to look to their parliamentary seats because the people who voted for them and Brexit will be wondering why they are ignoring the will of the people. Perhaps they think the people are not bright enough to know what is good for them?

Be very aware of going down that road.

Did anybody notice a referendum that took place in June 2016, to decide whether to leave the EU or not? I have noticed a lot of calls for further referendums.

This is a mandate for this country to leave the EU on March 29. We do not need another mandate. England lost the rugby on Saturday, they do not get a replay for any reason until next year.

I suspect that half the celebrities and people in funny blue suits, top hats and stars believe we are leaving Europe in geographical terms. Somebody explain to them that it is only the European Union we are leaving. Much of their thinking is led by national newspapers bombarding them with different scare lines every day, not a balanced view.

Get out on March 29, or Brexit will eventually be forgotten either because we are all dead of old age or bored to death.

That of course will be the object of everybody who is interested in defying the will of the people by a referendum.

For centuries we have been an independent nation, more or less, except for the past 30-plus years since we signed up to Europe. During that long period we have managed very well, give or take a few wars.

I am positive that with a little concerted group effort we can overcome all problems and resume that independence and get away from the strangulation of the EU. Businesses will be nervous, but the forward thinking and the brave will survive. We always have.
