Devils return to winning ways

-

CARDIFF Devils got back to winning ways with an impressive 5-2 victory over the Glasgow Clan at Viola Arena.

The Devils’ leading scorer Gleason Fournier got the home side on the board first with Layne Ulmer setting him up for a short-handed goal at the eight-minute mark of the opening period.

Glasgow came straight back to equalise less than two minutes later when Matt Beca made it 1-1 at 9:43.

The first period ended still tied but the middle period saw the Devils take over the game.

At 24:29, Stephen Dixon fed Bryce Reddick who beat Joel Rumpel to give the Devils a 2-1 lead, but again the Clan tied it back up less than two minutes later. Matt Haywood tipped in a shot from Michal Gutwald at 25:40 to make it 2-2.

Josh Batch put the Devils back in front with a good finish after a perfect pass from Jake Morissette.

At 32:12 Joey Martin finished off a nice passing play from Mike Hedden and Sean Bentivoglio to give the Devils a 4-2 lead, which they held onto until the end of the period.

The only goal of the third period came from Charles Linglet after the puck was thrown at the net and somehow bounced off of him and past Rumpel for a goal making it 5-2 at 44:06.

Next up for the Giants is an away trip to Coventry before they return to Viola Arena to host the Sheffield Steelers this Sunday at 4pm.
