Nationalisation is not socialism
PEOPLE who link socialism and nationalisation together are probably unaware that the first nationalised industry in Britain was ‘The Church Of England’ by Henry VIII.
Charles II nationalised ‘The Post Office’.
In June 1914 Winston Churchill nationalised British Petroleum, “Comrade Churchill” wanting the oil to be in the hands of the people, he paid £2m for a commanding majority share holding.
The BBC was nationalised by the Conservative Party.
Name from the past Imperial Airways was nationalised by the Conservative Party.
The Army and the Police,both of which are nationalised, have no relationship with socialism whatsoever.
Now,we note that all these events took place before the 1917 Russian revolution.

The idea of socialism is of common ownership and that things are best done by cooperation,the co-operative movement was based on that principle, municipal ownership is a form of socialism, it worked well.
From Britain’s point of view there were self inflicted side winds, maybe the Thatcher goverment’s years of ‘If it moves privatise it’’.
Post-war Germany and Japan rose as economic powerhouses and both had prohibited restriction orders placed on them.
