Valley Vets opens £2m veterinary hospital in capital city
VALLEY VETS has opened a new £2m veterinary hospital in Cardiff.
The hospital has 10 consulting rooms, six operating theatres, a hydrotherapy unit, a physiotherapy service, dental suite, CT scanner, ultrasound, diagnostic endoscopy, keyhole surgery, two x-ray suites and a rabbit and exotic pet clinic.
Valley Veterinary Hospital is situated in Gwaelod y Garth close to the A470 to allow easy access to all referred clients and emergencies.
Valley Veterinary Hospital was officially opened by The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Daniel De’Ath at an open day where visitors had the chance to see how an empty warehouse had been transformed into a twostorey veterinary hospital, providing 24-hour care, seven days a week.
Pet owners from across Cardiff and the Valleys, the Vale and Newport, as well as further afield, will be able to use the Valley Veterinary Hospital.
Valley Vets is part of UK veterinary group, VetPartners, which is funding the project. The project has been overseen by Mark Evans, VetPartners business development director for south Wales.
Mr Evans said: “The idea for Valley Veterinary Hospital was first conceived at the start of 2018 with work starting on site six months ago.
“We are immensely proud of what has been achieved and it has only been possible through the sheer dedication and hard work of the whole project team.
“Many of the veterinary facilities here are unrivalled across Wales and it is a superb place for our team to work in. Our aim is now to use this facility to provide the best possible care for pets in Wales.”
Valley Veterinary Hospital has a dedicated cat clinic, which will soon include a radioiodine treatment centre for thyroid disease – the first in Wales.
The hospital is home to the first CT scanner and first in-house physiotherapist for cats and dogs in Wales. Valley Veterinary Hospital will be taking referrals in medicine and surgery – for dogs, cats, rabbits and exotic pets – from other veterinary practices.
Founder and CEO of VetPartners, Jo Malone, said: “Valley Veterinary Hospital is a landmark achievement for Valley Vets and for VetPartners. By bringing together such a wide range of veterinary services and facilities under one roof we believe it will dramatically improve the offer of care to pets in Wales.”
