Matt looks to build on Bony boost

-

NEWPORT County forward Jamille Matt is aiming to fire the Exiles to a first league victory of the season after receiving some pearls of wisdom from star striker Wilfried Bony.

The former £28million Manchester City signing has been training with the League Two club following his release by Swansea at the end of last season.

Bony’s main aim is get fit for a potential move to a European giant, but he has also been using his time in Newport to pass on his goalscoring knowledge to Mike Flynn’s men.

And Matt, who netted 20 goals last season, plans to use his advice to fire Newport to victory over league leaders Plymouth Argyle at Rodney Parade today (3pm).

“It’s been brilliant to have Wilf in with us, he’s someone I’ve watched in the Premier League, I was always aware of how good he is and he hasn’t disappointed,” he said.

“His attitude was first-class first and foremost, he spent about half an hour after training the other day speaking to all the lads trying to pass on a bit of knowledge and motivation which was brilliant.

“One of the things he stressed the other day was about working on whatever your strengths are.

“You hear a lot of people telling you to work on your weaknesses, which you have to do, but he said you have to make sure the strong points of your game are as strong as they can be.

“That really stuck with me and it’s something I’ll take forward in my career.”

Matt will come back into the team after missing the Carabao Cup triumph at Gillingham that booked them a Rodney Parade clash with Premier League giants West Ham United, a game that will be televised live by Sky Sports on Tuesday, August 27. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
