How they rated
FREDDIE WOODMAN
A mere spectator for the majority of the game. Was at his busiest when applauding chants from the East Stand.
JAKE BIDWELL
Untroubled defensively in the opening 45 and got forward well, too. Could have done better in the final third, though. Subbed at the break.
JOE RODON
A sloppy pass midway through the opening half aside, it was another assured display from the Welshman. Won his aerial duels and ensured Woodman had a quiet afternoon.
MIKE VAN DER HOORN
Didn’t put a foot wrong. Mopped up whenever Birmingham had the slightest sniff of forward momentum. Superb intervention in the build-up to Bersant Celina’s goal.
CONNOR ROBERTS
Fired wide from the edge of the box in the first half and was allowed to play really high up the pitch due to Birmingham’s 5-3-2 system. Wonderful cut-back for the penalty.
JAY FULTON
Had a real battle on his hands in the middle of the park but grew into the match. Such an important, battling display.
BERSANT CELINA
Unable to make a telling influence on the left in the first half but stuck to task and took his goal brilliantly. Replaced late on.
YAN DHANDA
Making only his second league start for the club, Dhanda had a golden chance to put his side 1-0 up but saw his effort cleared off the line by Kristian Pedersen. Burst into the box to win the penalty. Withdrawn late on.
ANDRE AYEW
Cutting edge on the right had the Blues worried at times and had two decent chances in the opening half, the first a header and the second a shot from Grimes’s long ball forward. Tireless energy and played a key part in the build-up to the penalty.
BORJA BASTON
Fired wide early on and could have pulled the trigger himself before setting up Dhanda in the opening half. Worked tirelessly in the second half and netted from the penalty spot, a goal that makes him the outright top scorer in the Championship.
