Champions St Fagans round off a great season in style

-

ST FAGANS rounded off their triumphant South Wales Premier League campaign with a comfortable nine-wicket victory at Pontarddulais.

Andrew Gorvin took 3-14 while Mitchell Edwards bagged a couple of wickets as hosts Bont finished on 177-9.

The champions then made light work of the run chase, getting them one down with opening bat Edwards finding the boundary rope 18 times in his unbeaten knock of 112 off just 95 balls to lead them to a 12th and final league win of the season.

Meanwhile, St Fagans were yesterday aiming to do the double with the two sides meeting again in the final of the Welsh Cup at Sophia Gardens.

The Stags finished the league season 36 points clear of Neath who, despite a 127-run defeat at relegated Clydach in their final game, ended as runners-up.

Sam Davies struck a century for Clydach who, despite going down, have at least ended the season on a high having also beaten St Fagans the weekend before.

Clydach amassed 304-7 before bowling Neath out for 177.

Cardiff (171) were unable to take second as they lost by three wickets at home against Port Talbot Town (172-7) and end the season in third.

Dethroned champions Newport (93-6) beat Bridgend Town (91) by four wickets to finish fourth.

Swansea will replace Clydach in division one next season and the former signed off from division two with victory by 184 runs at Malpas.

Captain Brad Wadlan went to town on the Malpas bowling, smashing an astonishing 30 fours and seven maximums in his unbeaten knock of 210 off just 145 balls as Swansea made 364-5. Malpas were then all out for 180.

And in the battle of the two relegated clubs, Panteg (150-8) beat Newport Fugitives (149-9) by two wickets.
