Two re-arrested on suspicion of drug driving

-

TWO men were arrested on suspicion of drug driving, released, then re-arrested hours later for the same alleged offence.

The first incident happened on the A470 in Powys shortly before 1pm on Saturday.

Officers stopped a car near the village of Libanus and a drug swipe carried out on the male driver indicated a positive reading for cannabis and cocaine, leading to his arrest on suspicion of drug driving.

The man, aged 28, was taken into custody, where a blood sample was taken, before he was released under investigation.

However, just hours later, at around 6.30pm, police stopped a car in Mill Road in the village of Llangynidr. The same man who had been released earlier was arrested again on suspicion of drug driving.

Meanwhile, another man was arrested twice on Sunday after police stopped him and pulled over his vehicle on two occasions 12 hours apart.

The 46-year-old from Whitland was stopped and arrested at around 1am on Sunday morning, only to allegedly get back behind the wheel while under the influence of cannabis just hours after being released from custody – he was stopped again at around 1pm on the same day.

Police have since admitted they are making attempts to speed up the blood analysis process, something that would allow them to potentially charge a suspect before they are free to get behind the wheel again, hours after being arrested.

The two men arrested twice over the weekend have both been released under investigation.
