Television awards extended to industry
THE Royal Television Society (RTS) in Wales has announced its 2020 awards – celebrating the best in TV and audio-visual content by industry professionals and student film-makers in Wales.
In addition to the longstanding students’ honours, the annual awards are being extended to allow broadcasters and independent producers to submit entries in the new Industry categories.
The RTS Cymru Awards 2020 will be held on February 27 next year at Cineworld in Cardiff.
Judith Winnan, chairwoman of RTS Cymru Wales, said: “We’re delighted to announce our extended awards for 2020.
“Our student awards are well-established, and as part of our ambitious plans for the RTS in Wales, this year we’re very much looking forward to honouring industry achievements as well.
“It’s been a fantastic year for Welsh programme-making and we know from previous awards how much young film-making talent exists in the student community in Wales.
“We look forward to receiving nominations from broadcasters and producers, as well as from the next generation of talented film-makers to make the 2020 awards our best yet.”
Now in its second year, the Breakthrough Award is for emerging professionals who are making their mark on the industry and have a minimum of two years’ experience in a paid role.
Nominees can be working in any aspect of the behind-the camera production process, including development, research, production management and all craft roles.
The RTS Cymru Student Awards, now in their 25th year, recognise the best audio-visual work created by students attending higher education institutions and further education courses in Wales.
As in previous years, the winners of each student category will go forward to compete in the UK-national RTS Student Television Awards in London.
The judging panels for the Industry Awards and the Student Awards will be made up of experienced professionals from the television production sector and from the higher and further education sectors.
The closing date for Industry entries is January 10.
