Fireman saves two after hearing smoke alarm

-

A FIREFIGHTER helped save two people’s lives after he heard the faint sound of a smoke alarm coming from their house.

Retained fireman David Moseley, who works as a painter and decorator, was decorating offices in Ruthin on Friday evening when he heard the faint sound of a smoke alarm.

After investigating, he found a property filled with smoke and called 999.

He then responded to his alerter, before returning to the incident, putting on his breathing apparatus and helping to rescue two people who were inside the property.

Speaking about the incident, Mr Moseley said: “I’m just glad I was there – right time, right place. I’d encourage anyone who does hear an alarm sounding to act upon it, and to check they have working smoke detectors in their home.

“Early detection can make all the difference.”

His colleague, Liam Williams, posted on Facebook about Mr Moseley’s life-saving actions.

He said: “On Friday evening David Moseley, a firefighter from Ruthin, was painting in work when he heard the faint sounds of a smoke detector coming across the street. After investigation, he saw the house was heavily smokelogged and called 999.

“He then responded to his alerter, arrived back at the incident, put on breathing apparatus and rescued two casualties who have now been released from hospital.”

He added: “Both casualties received first-aid care from Ruthin and Mold’s crew while we patiently waited for an ambulance.

“Check your smoke alarms and if you hear someone else’s going off, go and have a look.”
