HALAHOLO HITS BACK AT CRITICS AFTER INJURY WRECKS WALES DEBUT DREAM

Cardiff Blues star Willis Halaholo has furiously fired back at his critics after injury ruined his chances of making a Wales debut against the Barbarians this weekend.

Earlier this month, new boss Wayne Pivac selected Halaholo and Johnny McNicholl in the Wales squad for the first time after the pair became eligible on residency grounds.

Their selections divided opinion and drew some critics, the most high profile of which was former Wales star Gavin Henson, who described their selections as ‘so wrong’. This morning it was confirmed that Halaholo suffered a knee injury in the Blues’ defeat to Leicester on Saturday night that will prevent him joining up with Wales this week and is likely to keep him out for the rest of the season.

Hours after the announcement, Halaholo took to Twitter to air his feelings.

“(To) all the doubters, haters and people that don’t think I belong here, you got your wish,” he said.

“You’ve got nine months to get better, especially the ones that think it’s okay for the other two Kiwi-born (players) to represent Wales but not me.

“I wasn’t going to say anything but it’s just sad to see people still live this way. If you’re against the rule, cool. But if you’re against me as a person then, I don’t know, I wish you all the best.

“This country is in my heart now, solidified, because anyone that knows me knows family is huge for me. I have two Welsh-born daughters now that makes this country solidified in my heart.

“Nothing motivates me more than doubters and haters. See you next season. Peace and Love.”

In his series of tweets, Halaholo is referring firstly to Hadleigh Parkes, who qualified on residency in 2017 and has gone on to become a favourite among Wales fans.

The other player is Scarlets back McNicholl, who is expected to make his first appearance for Wales at the Principality Stadium this weekend.

Before hitting back at those who criticised his selection, Halaholo also said: “Thanks to Cardiff Blues for the support. Also all the genuine supporters.

“Tough pill to swallow at the moment but there must be a bigger plan for me from the Man above.

“I’ll be back with very very itchy feet. For now I will stand by the brothers until the end of the season.”

He added: “(I) was really looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of the best players in Wales. All the best brothers.”
