JD CYMRU PREMIER

-

CARDIFF Met still have their sights set on being in the JD Cymru Premier’s top six as they gear up for today’s short trip to Barry Town United.

Christian Edwards’ side head to Jenner Park buoyed by a 2-1 win over The New Saints in their own backyard last Friday night.

The Archers have certainly left their work cut out if they are going to be in the top half come the split next month after a mixed bag of results following their first European exertions in the summer.

Currently eighth and four points off sixth placed Cefn Druids, Met also host high flying Bala and Caernarfon after back-toback clashes with Barry.

But they will hope the win at TNS will provide the springboard for their charge towards the top half. First half goals from Joel Edwards and Will Evans earned the students all three points at Park Hall and also made it six matches unbeaten against TNS.

It was a result that delighted boss Edwards, who has made a welcome return to the dugout after a recent health scare.

“Nothing surprises me with this fantastic group of players,” he said. “We’ve fallen below our own standards that we’ve set in the Welsh Premier League and as that has happened people have doubted us. But I always knew TNS away could be a kick start to our season and I was very proud.

“We’ve been consistent in our performances but we haven’t been consistent in our results so they deserved that and I’m really pleased for the boys.”

There are four other 2.30pm kick-offs with TNS looking to bounce back from that defeat as they go to Cefn Druids. Connah’s Quay Nomads, who are second and a point behind TNS, play host to Airbus UK Broughton on Deeside with Carmarthen Town entertaining Penybont and Newtown locking horns with Aberystwyth Town at Latham Park. The cameras are at the Oval for the late kick-off between Caernarfon and Bala (5.15pm).
