■ Build more low-carbon homes

In our recent budget, we allocated an additional £140m responding to the climate emergency and delivering a greener Wales.

This includes £25m for our innovative housing fund, which looks at new ways in which Wales can be ahead of the game in delivering near-zero-carbon homes – resulting in around 450 additional climate-friendly homes.

And earlier this week we announced we’re consulting on changing building regulations, which will lead to all new homes to be heated and powered from clean energy sources from 2025.

■ Invest in electric vehicles and active travel schemes

Changing our daily habits and moving away from high-emission forms of transport play an important role in responding to the climate emergency.

These changes won’t happen overnight. However, we’re committed to supporting you, the people of Wales, to make the change.

Active travel, getting around using active methods, including walking and cycling, is essential in tackling the climate emergency, the air quality crisis, and the obesity epidemic.

Active travel should be the natural choice for local journeys, and we’ve encouraged local authorities to think big and be radical to create new active travel projects – supported by £40m of grant funding.

We’ve also set aside £29m of support to the change to lowemission vehicles, and we now have over 900 publicly accessible charging outlets – up 670 since last April.

■ Create a National Forest for Wales

Here in Wales we understand the vital role trees play in fighting climate change.

We want to protect our ancient woodlands, and create a National Forest for Wales,

By having a National Forest, communities across Wales will benefit from high-quality green spaces, and the benefits of new tourism opportunities supporting our efforts to tackle climate change.

We want to work with schools, communities, public-sector bodies, farmers and foresters to take an active part in this project, building on the success of Wales’ coastal path.

To kick-start the national forest programme, we’ve committing £4.5m to accelerate the rate of tree planting.
