A MOTHER stabbed her “aggressive” son in the leg with a kitchen knife after reaching her “wits’ end” with his abusive behaviour.

Dawn Ferguson, 47, knifed Scott Gunter at their home in Cardiff, a court heard.

Having already attended Ms Ferguson’s home in Roath on November 5 last year, officers were called back to the property, where they found Mr Gunter sitting on the kitchen floor covered in blood with a one-inch wound to his right leg.

Ferguson admitted to police that she was responsible for the wound and told them she had stabbed him. She told officers she “couldn’t live like this any longer”.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday heard police picked up Mr Gunter in Helen Place after seeing him walking around the streets without any trousers.

He was taken back to Ferguson’s address but she refused to have him in the property due to his behaviour being a daily occurrence so Mr Gunter left.

Prosecutor Suzanne Payne said police were called back shortly after by the ambulance service due to reports of a man with a stab wound in his leg.

The found Mr Gunter with a lot of blood on his legs but he refused to co-operate and told officers he didn’t like the police.

When they spoke to Ferguson she admitted to causing the injury and said: “I stabbed him. I can’t live like this any longer.”

She was arrested on suspicion of assault and told police which knife she had used.

She gave a no-comment interview but admitted to police she was fed up with the way Mr Gunter had treated her and called him “a monster”.

The court heard there had been a number of calls to the police by Ferguson in the run-up to the incident, asking them to remove Mr Gunter from her home.

Sentencing, Judge Nicola Jones told the defendant she had “considerable sympathy” for her and described her as being “at her wits’ end”.

Ferguson was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment suspended for eight months after admitting a charge of wounding.
