THE WAYNE PIVAC Q&A

-

and tidy in and around the place.

Looking after ourselves and just making sure we do everything we can do to keep ourselves in good health.

Q: England won’t travel to Italy as planned, which would be a shame for the Six Nations? WP:

It’s a shame, but I guess the health risks outweigh the game of rugby being played at that time.

It will get played at a later date and we’ll just have to see the outcome of that down the track.

Everyone will be disappointed, but you have to put the health of the general public first.

Those decisions will be made at a government level and, obviously, if it affects us then we’ll worry about that at the time.

For us at the moment, it’s all about England and the excitement. It’s my first tournament and we look back on the French game and the opportunities that we created but we didn’t finish them.

That’s something that we’ll need to do this weekend.

We’ll just keep working positively to try and achieve that.

Q: It’s your first chance to lock horns with Eddie Jones, how much are you looking forward to that? WP:

He’s a fantastic coach, his track record speaks for itself. I find him one of the game’s great characters and I’m really looking forward to it and I’m looking forward to catching up with him afterwards.

Q: How high should the Welsh public’s level of expectation be? WP:

We’ve prepared as well as we can. We’ve got a good side taking the field.

We’re going there to try and improve each week, improve on the French performance which, apart from the scoreline, we did well in most areas of the game.

We were pretty happy with the outcomes but it’s fine margins. The intercept pass and the refereeing decision, which everyone would probably know and agree, was a penalty try.

Those are big moments in games...

We think we’re on the right track, we just need to keep working hard.

Q: Do you go there as underdogs? WP:

Going to Twickenham, history would suggest that and we’re no different.

But it’s an England v Wales match and it’s one which the players are thoroughly looking forward to.

Q: Where do you think England are in terms are their performance levels? WP:

I thought they were very impressive against Ireland. Very impressive. They controlled that game from start to finish, dominated in virtually all areas.

They wouldn’t have been happy with that first half against France but since then, there was a bit of weather in Edinburgh which made it difficult.

But judging them on that Ireland game, this is going to be a big task.

Q: Just to tidy up the injury situation, was Will Rowlands available? WP:

Again, Will had to go back and play club football and picked up an injury there to a knee.

He’s been ruled out and that just about covers it.
