Terrier put down after ‘greyhound’ prom attack

-

A YORKSHIRE Terrier had to be put down after being attacked by another dog on Barry Island seafront.

Dog owner Bryoni Campbell has been left heartbroken after the incident involving her sevenyear-old dog, Loki, on Monday, March 2.

Bryoni, 25, said she had been walking along Friars Road with her aunt at around 12.30pm when she claimed a dog ran out from diners sitting outside a cafe.

The dog, described as a greyhound-type dog, grabbed Loki in its mouth during the attack, she claimed, causing Loki to lose a large amount of blood.

Bryoni, from Cardiff, said: “We were just finishing coming from a walk around Barry Island and we were heading back to the car when we went by a cafe by Hypervalue.

“I didn’t even see it coming, Loki had his head down walking past and all of a sudden this greyhound lunged at him and had Loki in his mouth,” she claimed.

“I was shouting ‘let him go, let him go’, my aunt was shouting. I put my hand in the dog’s mouth to yank it open and let him go. Some guy came over and got it to release.

“We had to rush Loki to the vet’s, he had lost a lot of blood, and there was no saving him.”

She said: “I was heartbroken he was my dog, he was like my child. I had him for my 18th birthday. He was a little bit of a weirdo, he was unique.”

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “South Wales Police was called concerning a report of a dog attacking another dog.

“The caller was advised that incidents such as this are civil matters, not criminal, and that a complaint may be made through the Magistrates’ Court.”
