Are you over 50, doing a job you find rewarding and want to tell us your story?
THE Welsh Government has teamed up with WalesOnline to celebrate older workers across Wales as part of its ‘People Don’t Have a Best Before Date’ campaign and is looking for 50 people over 50 who are working in a role they find rewarding.
Perhaps you’ve been with the same organisation for years and are in a position where you are at the heart and soul of the business
Maybe you mentor and inspire younger employees
You could be in a role where
nnnothers look up to you for motivation and encouragement
Have you changed career later in life and undertaken training to update your skills?
Maybe you have set up your own business, are self-employed or freelance
Are you volunteering for an organisation you are passionate about?
Did you know that by 2022, one in three people of working age in Wales will be age 50 and over? Despite this, for one reason or
nnnanother, 28% of people aged 50-64 years in the UK are not actually in work.
To address this issue the Welsh Government is raising awareness of the valuable contribution older workers bring to the economy and encouraging employers to recruit, retain and train employees over the age of 50 through its ‘People Don’t Have a Best Before Date’ campaign.
The campaign aims to highlight the critical importance older workers bring to businesses and the wider economy to ensure Wales has the skills it needs to compete in the global marketplace.
Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, said: “This campaign challenges ageist stereotypes about older workers, and shines a light on the need for Welsh businesses to take action when it comes to future-proofing their workforce.
“This is particularly the case for SMEs, for whom losing the valuable skills and experience of older workers can have much more of an impact.
“Employers need to assess, monitor and consider the needs of their experienced workers, as the role they play is critical to the success and prosperity of the Welsh economy.”
If you are interested in putting yourself forward for 50 over 50, we want to know about you.
