TWITTER FLAGS UP MISLEADING TWEETS

IN LINE with its commitment to tighten up security, safety and ‘fake news’, Twitter has introduced new features to fight Covid-19 misinformation.

A new system will flag up Tweets it thinks spread the wrong message. One containing misinformation will be hidden completely until a user clicks through from the warning, while Tweets that contain disputed or unverified claims will be visible, but labelled as potentially problematic.

In all cases, if the system thinks there’s something amiss, a link through to a Twitter-curated page of verified and official information will be prominent.

QUIBI SPREADS THE WORD

JUST a month after its launch,

Quibi – the short-form video streaming platform – appears to be struggling to attract users and has introduced an in-app stem for sharing shows to spread the word about its service.

Quibi’s shows are no longer than 10 minutes and can be viewed only on a smartphone, but they are shot and edited so they can be watched in either portrait or landscape mode.

They are aimed at people who might have only a short time to watch, and will always watch on their phone. The distinct lack of commuters at the moment may well account for its apparent struggles.

APPLE’S LOGIC UPGRADE

YOU may have tinkered with Apple’s Garageband music-making software on iPhone, iPad or Mac – but did you know it has a big brother?

Logic X, only available for Mac at the moment, is a full-featured music making studio. This week it received perhaps its biggest upgrade, but some features are adapted from its baby brother, making it more appealing to amateurs who have hit Garageband’s limitations.

There’s a loop creator, a simple sampler, and a beat sequencer that recalls old-style drum machines.

Logic Pro X is available as a download from the Mac App Store for £199, while the upgrade is available free for existing users. Apple has also extended the free trial period during which you can try all of Logic’s features out to 90 days… plenty of time to record that hit tune for free.
