Have they any ideas about a deal with EU?
AFTER watching Darren Millar on the news trying to “answer” the question put to him of a Britain post a no-deal Brexit, it is quite apparent that the Tory faithful at both a UK and Wales level are clueless.
What was a simple question of the impact of no deal, Mr Millar seems to be of the opinion that “the EU always give way”. Is this their stock reply to a very important question? On what does he base this most ambiguous of statements given that the EU have never been in this situation before and have decades of trade negotiations with much larger economies than ours under their belts?
Perhaps Mr Millar could explain this (and his party’s) approach to a no-deal leaving of the EU, to the farming and manufacturing sectors within his constituency. Perhaps he can detail to those constituency members where their customers and ultimately their jobs are going to suddenly appear. Perhaps he can explain why food costs are likely to spiral and certain goods cannot be sourced. Perhaps he can explain to them and others the true cost of a no-deal departure.
It is clear this Government has no credible negotiating position nor the skills needed to achieve a deal. To rely on a negotiating tool of “the EU always give way”, remembering this is ultimately how the future of this country is to be decided, is rather a fanciful and unintelligent approach and one which, like the Tory party, should be avoided at all costs.
