Four more people die with Covid-19 in Wales, says PHW

-

THE number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in Wales has increased by four, new figures showed yesterday.

Public Health Wales (PHW) confirmed the death toll since the start of the outbreak has now reached 1,448.

The NHS trust added that the number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus has now risen by 62 to bring the total to 14,804.

Several local authorities once again recorded zero new cases of Covid-19 including Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Merthyr Tydfil, Ceredigion, Powys, and Neath Port Talbot, while Conwy had the most new cases with 10.

And while testing capacity has been boosted to around 12,300 per day on Sunday just 3,100 were carried out.

Public Health Wales’ daily figures on coronavirus-related deaths reflect the number of people who have died with lab-confirmed coronavirus which have been reported to them.

As it can take two or three days for reports to reach them, the deaths have not all happened in the last 24 hours.

The actual number of deaths, when including those who have died while neither in a hospital nor a care home, is far higher than the PHW figure, having already surpassed 2,000 deaths last month.
