Woman, 32, assaulted police at lockdown house party

-

POLICE were set upon when they turned up to a party at which 30 people had gathered in breach of lockdown restrictions.

Officers had gone to the house in Bethesda after reports of an assault.

When they arrived there they found up to 30 people, some of them in a very drunken state.

One of them, Nerys Williams, refused to go with police as they tried to arrest her.

She slapped and headbutted Pc Megan Roberts, before sinking her teeth into another, Jamie Aston.

The bite needed hospital treatment.

Finally, she kicked officer Leon Portillo.

Yesterday, Williams, 32, was in court in Llandudno, charged with three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

The court heard she had been “out of control” during the incident at her father’s house on Saturday night.

Williams, of Ffordd Carneddi in Carneddi, pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor James Neary told the court the situation the police found themselves in was deemed so serious it was classed as a “Red One” incident, and officers had to come from as far as Bangor.

Carla Forfar, defending, told the district judge that her client suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder following a “very, very abusive relationship”.

During the incident, Williams, a support worker, had gone into “panic mode”.

She is “deeply apologetic”, added her solicitor.

District Judge Jones jailed her for 52 weeks and also ordered Williams to pay a £128 surcharge.

Inspector Jon Aspinall, of North Wales Police, said: “Especially at a time when gatherings like this are prohibited, it is very disappointing that my officers are subjected to physical violence. This sentence sends a clear message that assaults on key workers will not be tolerated.”
