Tributes to ‘amazingly talented’ sand artist
AN “AMAZINGLY talented and gifted man” who created beautiful sand sculptures has died.
It is understood sand artist Marc Treanor, 57, died suddenly at the beginning of July.
Dad Marc, inset below, was famed for his enormous artworks drawn painstakingly into sands at beaches – only to then see them washed away by the tide.
Friend Paul Stradwick said: “Marc was a lovely guy and an inspiration to many. He was a true artist who created his ethereal art just for the joy of it and as a gift to anyone who came across it on the beaches. We will miss him.”
He often worked on Tenby Beach, where he created a huge 130ft sculpture to help Neil Brierly propose to his girlfriend Emma Cornick.
In 2018, Mr Brierly asked Marc to write the question “Aye Aye Emma, will you marry me?” in 2m-high letters on North Beach.
Responding to
Marc’s death, Mr Brierly,
who married Emma in July last year, said: “This is such sad news. Marc was the nicest, most amazingly talented and gifted man. July 7 will mark the second anniversary of Marc creating the sand art at Tenby for my proposal to my wife, so Marc’s passing is particularly poignant.
“RIP Marc, the world is a poorer place without you.”
Marc, who lived with his partner Rachel in Dinas, often incorporated an environmental message into his work and worked with organisations including the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Visit Wales to highlight campaigns such as “Year of the Sea”.
Last year, Marc created a mural on Whitesands Beach in north Pembrokeshire for Fair Trade Wales to celebrate 25 years of the Fairtrade Mark. Fair Trade Wales said: “Marc was an incredible sand artist based in Pembrokeshire who helped create this Fairtrade Mark. Wishing love to Marc’s friends and family.”
