TRAGEDY AS MUM OF TWO DIES IN SLEEP

- AAMIR MOHAMMED Reporter aamir.mohammed@walesonline.co.uk

AHUSBAND has spoken of his devastation after finding his 35-year-old wife dead in bed. Mum-of-two Helen Alexandra Carter, who died in her sleep, had no known previous health conditions and was a stay-at-home parent, caring for her four-year-old son Callen.

She also has a 10-year-old son Dylan with another partner.

The cause of her death is currently unknown.

Helen and her husband Warren Abraham, 47, of Llanishen, Cardiff, knew each other around 10 years before they were in a relationship

Warren said he met Helen again five years ago and they married two years later.

He added: “We knew each other very well and always kept in touch through social media until one day we decided to make things official.

“Helen suffered with anxiety and depression but she was my rock and I loved her so much.

“We decided that she would stay at home because she wanted to raise our son and, after purchasing this property, she made this house her own – she absolutely loved it.”

During lockdown, he said, their son would sleep downstairs and the parents would take it in turns to be down there with him.

On the morning of June 17, Warren said he heard the cat attempting to come into the house.

He said it seemed odd, as Helen would usually come downstairs and let the cat in every morning.

“I went upstairs to check on her because usually she’d be up very early,” he added.

“She was laying there with her face down and I started panicking.

“I called the ambulance and they arrived and pronounced her dead on the scene.

“It was the most devastating moment of my life, I couldn’t come back to the house for so many days after because the image of her was fresh in my mind.

“My son accepts what has happened or maybe he just doesn’t understand grief.

“Every day, he tells me that his mummy is in heaven and that she’s with the angels.”

He said Helen had always wanted a small funeral.

She had told him she wanted a funeral where people were happy, smiling and wearing bright colours. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were only able to have 10 people at the funeral. It meant Warren’s family, who live in England, weren’t able to attend.

He added: “Covid-19 didn’t have any impact on the funeral as that’s exactly what she wanted, but for me it was devastating.

“My closest friends had to wait outside and my family from England couldn’t come. I don’t know how I gave a speech but somehow I did.

“Everyone has been so supportive, my family and friends are always checking up on me, as are my neighbours. I’ve had so much support.

“If anyone out there has true love, then please don’t lose it.

“Remember the good times and laugh, forget about the bad times. Life is too short for that.”

A fundraising page has been set up in memory of Helen. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/f/memorialfor-helen.

The funds will be spent on a garden bench in her memory, as Helen loved spending time in her garden.
