NO new coronavirus deaths have been reported in Wales for the third time this week.

Public Health Wales (PHW) confirmed on Sunday, July 12, there were zero deaths reported in people with lab-confirmed Covid-19, keeping the overall death toll at 1,541.

It is the third day this week that there have been no new deaths reported in the previous 24 hours. However, the number of lab-confirmed positive cases of coronavirus in Wales has increased by 16 to bring the total to 15,962.

Wrexham was the local authority with the most cases (five), followed by Gwynedd (three) and Powys and Conwy (two).

Anglesey, Denbighshire, Flintshire, and Merthyr Tydfil have all had one case while the other local authority areas in Wales had no new cases.

Even though testing capacity stands at 15,000 each day in Wales, just 2,879 tests were carried out on Saturday, July 11.

The new total comes as crowds have been flocking to beaches and beauty spots on the first weekend in months that Welsh people have been able to travel an unlimited distance from their home.

Announcing the end of the ‘stay local’ rule on Monday (July 6), Mark Drakeford asked people to continue to do what they can to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.

On Friday, he announced further easements as part of the 21-day coronavirus review period.

He confirmed pubs, cafes, and restaurants will open outdoors and hairdressers, barbers and mobile hairdressers will reopen by appointment from today.

Larger gatherings of up to 30 people will now be permitted provided they are outdoors “where these are organised and supervised by a responsible person for sports and other leisure activities and classes,” a Welsh Government spokesman said.

Playgrounds and community centres will open from July 20 ahead of the school summer holidays.

The wider beauty industry, including tattooists, was also told to begin to prepare to re-open from July 27 if conditions allow.

Mark Drakeford said that “provided the re-opening of outdoor hospitality goes well and the state of the virus allows, indoor opening for pubs, bars, cafes, and restaurants will resume from AugFuoslltow3”.us
