“I think that it is basic good manners, courtesy and consideration, to wear a face mask if you are, for example, in a shop”

Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove says face coverings should not be made mandatory in shops in England, but he would encourage people to wear them.

“We do need to get a lot more confidence back in the system and if the mandatory wearing of face masks in shops will help to do that then we absolutely support it”

Shadow business minister Lucy Powell.

“So we anticipate if everything goes really well that we’ll get an answer as to whether it works by early next year. And we have put in place the infrastructure to make that vaccine for the whole of the UK. So, assuming that the funding is there to purchase that vaccine, we could have that vaccine rolled out across the UK in the first half of next year”

Professor Robin Shattock, who heads Imperial College London’s vaccine team.

“There have been a number of outbreaks associated with choirs, for example, and it’s quite possible that we generate more of these small droplets when we talk loudly or sing, or perhaps when we’re exercising”

Professor Wendy Barclay of Imperial College London.

“But doing things like comedy, when you have done things like lads’ mags and I have been a bit of a pin-up for a while, it is hard to all of a sudden come out and say ‘Oh, I’m actually quite clever and quite funny, thank you very much”’

Emily Atack.
