Boy, 13, rescued from rip current

-

THE mum of a 13-year-old boy pulled unconscious from the water after being caught in a rip tide has revealed what happened to him.

Sarah Lewis said she “can’t thank the emergency services enough for saving my son”.

Rian Lewis Bradburn was with his dad at Aberdyfi beach, Gwynedd, on Sunday when he became one of several people who needed rescuing at sea.

He and several other swimmers were caught in a rip current, which according to his mum prevented him from swimming to the surface.

Rian was unconscious when he was pulled from the water and resuscitated by a member of the HM Coastguard rescue team before being flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Emergency Department.

His mum, Sarah, said: “Rian had gone on a trip with his dad and went into the sea for a swim.

“He doesn’t really remember much but all of a sudden he was pulled under by the rip tide and couldn’t swim back to the surface.

“It doesn’t bear thinking about what would have happened if it hadn’t been for the actions of the emergency services, I can’t thank them enough for saving my son.”

Rian has been in hospital since Sunday and is now well enough to return home to Shrewsbury.

According to the BBC, there were two rescues at the beach at the time of the incident. RNLI volunteer Arwel Jones, 30, told the BBC he brought two teenage boys and a man in his twenties back to the beach during the first rescue.

Moments after, Arwel’s friends went to the rescue of a further three teenagers and a woman.
