Swans manager keen for Liverpool talks over Brewster loan return

-

STEVE Cooper is hopeful of signing Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster on a season-long loan deal for the 2020/21 campaign.

The English forward joined the Swans on a temporary basis from the Reds in January and excelled under Cooper’s guidance, scoring 11 times in 22 appearances for the club.

His efforts were key in ensuring Swansea secured a play-off place, with Brewster ending the campaign as the club’s second top scorer behind Andre Ayew.

Jurgen Klopp has publicly expressed his delight with the 20-year-old’s efforts since he made the move to South Wales.

It’s understood that Brewster himself is keen to extend his stay at Swansea while the Premier League champions are open to the idea of the forward returning to the Liberty Stadium for a full season in the Championship, with Klopp set to hold talks with the frontman in due course.

And Cooper believes all parties would benefit should Brewster sign a fresh loan agreement with the Swans.

“It goes without saying we’d really like to keep Rhian,” said Cooper.

“Everybody has benefited from him being here - both him and the football club.

“Liverpool have gone on the record and said they’ve been really pleased with the loan.

“If a loan is in Liverpool’s plans for Rhian again we want to be right in there for him.

“I know he’s loved already by the supporters and that’s mutual. He’s very well liked around the football club.

“He’s not just a good player - he’s a really good lad.

“I personally think if Liverpool let him go out again and he comes to us, I think we’ll continue to help him improve.

“He’ll be an asset for us as well. I really hope that can happen.”

And when asked if he has held talks with Liverpool over Brewster, Cooper commented: “Yeah definitely. We have a lot of conversations with the loan players’ clubs because that’s the thing to do.

“We have a very good relationship with Liverpool and we have spoken openly about the idea of continuing the loan.

“They have been positive with the conversations but in the end they will decide what they want to do.”

Brewster made just three appearances for Liverpool’s first team before joining Swansea in the opening month of 2020.
