TWO men have been charged after a man was left in hospital with “life-threatening injuries” following an assault in the early hours of Sunday.

An assault happened in Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taf, at about 2.45am.

The 23-year-old man injured in the attack was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff, and remains in a serious condition.

On Sunday there was still a police presence in and around Eirw Road in Porth as the investigation continued.

Two people were confirmed to have been arrested on Monday morning and, later in the day, South Wales Police confirmed that officers had arrested a third man in connection with the serious assault.

Yesterday South Wales Police confirmed officers have charged the men with possessing an offensive weapon and committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both men were set to appear at Merthyr Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The force also confirmed no further action is being taken against the 23-year-old man who was also arrested as part of the investigation.

Detective Inspector Matt Hicks said: “I’d like to thank the local community for their assistance so far, and stress that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident at this time.

“Anybody who may have witnessed the incident or who has information should contact us immediately if they have not already done so.”

An investigation is continuing, and anybody with information is urged to call 101.
