WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY
FIRST PORTO CALL FOR SPA RETREATS
CAMPBELL GRAY Hotels’ latest opening, slated for May 2021, will be the impressive 52-room Palácio de Canavezes near Porto.
Overlooking the Tamega river on the edge of the Douro Valley, the wellness retreat’s landscaped gardens run right up to the water’s edge and jetty.
Built into the rockface, PureGray health clinic and wellness spa is tapping into the heritage of the Canavezes region – famed for its hot springs and medicinal waters since the early 1900s – incorporating the waters’ reputed healing properties in the soothing treatments on offer.
The hotel’s wellbeing philosophy will also define the dishes served up in the restaurant and on its dramatic terrace. Doubles from €290 per night. Visit campbellgrayhotels.com/ palacio-de-canavezes-hotelporto-portugal
OSAKA HOTEL THINKS INSIDE THE BOX
IN the hopeful anticipation the Olympics will still take place in Japan next year, the city of Osaka recently welcomed a new hotel brand when Zentis Osaka made its summer debut.
Located where the riverside business area of Dojimahama and the entertainment district of Kitashinchi meet, the 16-storey property, set in lush greenery, is an urban oasis of 212 rooms in a subtly edgy design inspired by Japanese bento boxes with interlocking layouts that cleverly optimise space.
And UPSTAIRZ, the hotel’s restaurant, bar and lounge, created by a team with Michelinstar credentials, features a menu with Japanese and French influences.
