Paedophile jailed for four years

-

A PAEDOPHILE groomed a young girl before sexually assaulting her, a court has heard.

As part of the grooming Aden Kyle Steventon gave the child alcohol he had brewed at home. The abuse came to light when the youngster spoke to staff at her Swansea school.

Swansea Crown Court heard that when police went to a hotel room Steventon was using they found bottles of lubricant and adult sex toys.

Ian Wright, prosecuting, said Steventon had moved to Swansea in 2014 and settled in Powys Avenue in Townhill.

Mr Wright said police arrested Steventon, 31, in Swansea city centre on March 17 last year and when they searched his room at the nearby Dolphin Hotel they found bottles of lubricant and sex toys.

Steventon, of Walsgrave Road, Ball Hill, Coventry, had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.

Judge Paul Thomas QC told Steventon he had groomed his victim

“slowly and determinedly” before assaulting her.

Giving the defendant a 25% discount for his guilty plea the judge sentenced him to four years in prison. Steventon will serve half that period in custody before being released on licence under the UK government’s early release scheme to serve the remainder in the community.

The defendant will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life and was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
