Win was reward for performances, says Keates
WREXHAM manager Dean Keates says his side’s 4-0 win at FC Halifax Town on Tuesday was a reward for recent displays.
The Reds had been on a run of three defeats in a row ahead of the trip to The Shay, but Keates felt that wasn’t a fair reflection.
He said: “People see a result and not the performance and performances have been not too bad. Three defeats on the bounce were something that hurt the group, but a lot of things have been said and fair play to the lads... they gave absolutely everything for this football club.
“We started very well... we were aggressive and played on the front foot and one or two things went our way tonight.”
A hat-trick from Jordan Davies and a strike from Dior Angus put Wrexham 4-0 up at the break and, despite spells of home pressure, Keates’ men comfortably kept a clean sheet.
The manager was full of praise for Coedpoeth youngster Davies, saying: “He played well, not so much his goals, but his overall play. It’s his first full season. He has got accustomed to playing at this level and has a good future ahead of him.”
The match also saw Gold Omotayo make an impressive debut, with Keates adding: “He had a massive impact, he’s a big, strong, physical lad and he gives us that platform that we have missed since Kwame [Thomas] got his injury.”
Omotayo’s strike partner Angus was also full of praise, saying:
“Gold coming in takes a bit of pressure off me and I can play my natural game.”
Wrexham have confirmed attacking midfielder Elliott Durrell has left the club.
Durrell, 31, has been released from his contract early by mutual agreement, following discussions with manager Keates.
He rejoined the club for a second spell at The Racecourse Ground in the summer, and scored two goals in 28 appearances this season.
