Don’t condemn us to second-class status

-

MARK Drakeford has made the ridiculous assertion that independence would “shut us off” from the rest of the world and that he is an “internationalist”.

Isn’t life ironic? Mark Drakeford is standing shoulder to shoulder with Boris Johnson and a Tory party hellbent on taking us all on a trip towards “little England”, more insular as a country than for decades, with us all being lined up for a one-sided trading deal with the USA, which would dramatically transform our economy and society, not in a good

way, but both driven down to the lowest common denominator, of low standards economically and socially to be able to compete with the USA.

The alternative to avoid this catastrophe is to look out to the rest of the world. See how other small countries cope, like Iceland, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, outward-looking, progressive economically and socially just. Wales can do this too. In fact, we are even better positioned to do this than they are with the greatest resources needed to turn our economy 100% green by 2035.

Mr Drakeford, this is not a game, this is not party political. It is about the future lives of all the people of Wales, and how they can live is a good society, with a healthy green economy to pass on to our future generations.

Mr Drakeford, I urge you to rethink beyond blind party politics, and to stop condemning our young in Wales with a second-class ticket to nowhere.

John Davies Plaid Cymru Senedd candidate for Gower
