Will’s tireless in his community work
FOOTBALL players often delight fans yet aren’t always held in high esteem off the pitch.
However, many have been making significant contributions to their local communities during the pandemic. One of those players is Cardiff City’s Will Vaulks.
Will, a Cardiff City FC Community Foundation Ambassador, was this week named PFA Player in the Community for the whole English Football League.
From supporting south Wales healthcare workers through the ‘feed the NHS’ initiative to fronting the #BluebirdsFromHome learning festival, Will has been tireless in his community work.
He delivered vital supplies to keep healthcare workers fed and watered whilst responding to the coronavirus crisis, and secured donations from fellow players and sponsors.
As our Foundation education programmes moved online,
Will contributed to our #BluebirdsFromHome learning festival, helping children to learn, be active and develop life skills. He called teachers to thank them for their extraordinary efforts, and called vulnerable young people, offering encouragement.
Will’s brand of social action reflects his modest personality and his committed playing style. Ultimately, he just wants to make a difference.
As the country begins to open up, we need to address the issues laid bare by coronavirus such as inequality, poverty, discrimination and access to public services.
Footballers have proved that they are not only part of the conversation but part of the solution too. I look forward to working together with Will to raise awareness of these issues and support others to build healthier, prosperous and more equal communities.
