Reeves on the mark to dent Reds’ play-offs bid
WREXHAM ........................... 0 NOTTS COUNTY .................. 1
WREXHAM’S hopes of reaching the National League play-offs were dented as Notts County clinched a 1-0 win at The Racecourse.
Jake Reeves’ long-range first-half effort was the difference between the sides.
Wrexham remain in the play-offs, but defeat leaves them only a point above eighth spot.
County are now unbeaten in six games and replace the Reds in fifth, with two games of the regular season remaining.
The Magpies made a good start with the first clear-cut opportunity falling to Jim O’Brien, whose fierce shot was palmed away by Rob Lainton, while Wrexham’s Luke Young tried his luck with a long-range effort.
The visitors took the lead when Reeves found himself with plenty of space before unleashing a low shot from distance which beat Lainton.
The hosts responded with a decent spell to end the half and a Gold Omotayo effort was deflected over the bar.
Dean Keates’ side were much improved after the break and a prolonged spell of pressure saw a Dior Angus effort saved by Sam Slocombe, Young firing wide and Omotayo heading past the post twice.
But they were unable to grab an equaliser and now face a nervous last couple of games of the season.
Earlier in the day, it was announced Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will take centrestage in a new access-all-areas docu-series about the club.
Hollywood duo Reynolds and McElhenney completed their takeover of Wrexham in February when they invested an immediate £2million in the National League club.
Welcome to Wrexham will chronicle their takeover - the club announced their initial interest in investing in September 2020 - and follow the Red Dragons’ fortunes over the following two seasons.
The north Wales club said on their official website: “As revealed by Rob and Ryan when they first met virtually with supporters in November, our new co-chairmen’s takeover of the Football Club is being recorded by a documentary crew.
“And Nick Grad, president, original programming at FX Entertainment has confirmed the two-season order of a documentary exploring the club, the town, and Rob and Ryan’s ‘crash course in football club ownership’.”
