‘Get vaxxed’, singer urges after catching coronavirus

-

WELSH singer Marina Diamandis has urged people to get jabbed after being diagnosed with Covid and warning about its debilitating impact.

The Marina and the Diamonds singer said she and five friends had got the virus despite all of them having had both doses of the vaccine.

She warned that she had had a “false sense of security indoors” and wanted to use her experience to tell others to get vaccinated.

In a message on Twitter, she said: “Hey everyone. I got Covid last week, so did five of my friends. We were all double vaccinated.

“Just want to say be careful out there. Breakthrough cases are more common than being reported. The main job of this vaccine is to prevent serious illness or death – and I’m so glad (and grateful) I have it, otherwise I wouldn’t be feeling okay on day six.

“However, it doesn’t make the ‘mild’ version of Covid any less unpleasant. It sucks! I definitely had a false sense of security indoors and so wanted to give you all a heads up. PS Get vaxxed as soon as you’re offered it. I would not want to go through an even worse version of last week.”

The singer, who was born in Brynmawr and grew up near Abergavenny, went on to detail her symptoms, saying it started with sneezing and sore throat for a lot of people.

“Don’t assume it’s a cold because you’re vaccinated,” she said. “Don’t bother with rapid/lateral flow tests if it’s in the first five days after exposure. You’ll likely be undetectable and test negative.”

Covid infections remain high across the UK with 316,691 cases reported over the past seven days, up by about 43% from the previous sevenday period.
