‘Nasty bully’ who raped sleeping woman is jailed

-

A MAN who raped a woman as she slept has been branded a “manipulative, nasty bully” who treats women as trophies.

A judge said he had no doubt Kieran Lucas should be considered a dangerous offender, and made the subject of an extended sentence for public protection.

Lucas has convictions for assaulting, harassing, and controlling women, and jailing him, the judge told him he had “no regard for women or the way they feel”.

The 25-year-old defendant, of Heol y Waun, Gelligaer, Caerphilly, had previously been convicted of rape at trial at Cardiff Crown Court when he appeared in the dock of Cardiff Crown Court for sentenc

ing.

In a statement read to the court on behalf of his victim, she described the devastating impact Lucas’ actions had had on her life. As a victim of a sexual offence the woman has life-long legal anonymity.

Recorder Greg Bull QC said the defendant had shown no remorse for what he had done, and had no insight into his offending. He said in his judgment Lucas was a danger to the public, and an extended sentence was necessary to address the risk he posed.

He told the defendant: “You are a manipulative, nasty bully who has no regard for women or the way they feel. For you, a woman is an object or a trophy for you to do with as you will.”

Lucas was made the subject of a 12-year extended sentence comprising nine years in custody followed by three years on licence. He must serve two-thirds of the nine years before he can apply for release but it will be for the Parole Board to decide if he is safe to be let out. The defendant will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.
