Man, 47, trampled on and throttled his ex-girlfriend

-

A MAN repeatedly stamped on his expartner and throttled her after spending the night at her house, a court has heard.

Mark Abrahams was described as being “unpleasant and abusive” before the attack and as being either still drunk from the night before or intoxicated from morning drinking.

The assault wasn’t reported at the time but when he showed up at his victim’s house “steaming drunk” a few days later the police were called – and officers saw the bruising on the victim which had been previously caused. The 47-year-old’s barrister told Swansea Crown Court his client was remorseful for what he had done.

The court heard Abrahams and his victim had been in a long-term relationship, which came to an end three years ago though the pair had seen each other on and off since the split.

Dean Pulling, prosecuting, said the pair spent the night of September 12 this year together at the victim’s Pembrokeshire home, then the following morning the woman prepared to go to work. Abrahams was described as being “unpleasant and abusive” and his victim thought he was either still drunk from the night before or had consumed more alcohol that morning.

The court heard the defendant took the woman to the floor and began stamping on her legs before grabbing her around the neck. The prosecutor said the woman would later describe how she was struggling to breathe and thought she was going to die.

Abrahams, now of Mortlake Drive, Newton Heath, Manchester, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating.

Ian Ibrahim, for Abrahams, said the defendant was remorseful and had taken steps to change his life.

With a discount for his guilty pleas Recorder Christopher Clee sentenced Abrahams to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years and ordered him to complete a rehabilitation course and 140 hours of work in the community. He was made the subject of a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex for five years.
