Be sensible, A&E isn’t for minor ailments

-

THIS is purely a personal opinion, but since the onset of Covid and indeed pre-pandemic A&E departments have been misused.

People cannot get a face-to-face GP appointment and so resort to going to A&E. This is totally wrong. A&E is for major trauma, cardiac arrests, strokes and major illnesses, not for simple cuts, bruises and sore throats.

Community pharmacists are more than capable of suggesting remedies and help and should be the first port of call for non-urgent cases.

It is up to us to keep ourselves as fit and healthy as we can and be mindful of our own health.

We all have tremendous respect for the medical staff, and every time I have had anything to do with the ambulance staff have found them exemplary in their care and concern for their patients.

Our mindset needs to change radically to stop the horrific overcrowding and stressed A&E staff. Again I state A&E is not for minor ailments. Let’s all step up and help our ailing NHS, which has been brilliant since the inception in 1948. Nobody foresaw Covid.
