TALENT CAN’T BE IN DOUBT, SAYS LAW

-

CARDIFF head coach Steve Law says the talent of his team can’t be questioned after they blew away a spirited RGC side in a 12-try thriller. A rampant Blue and Blacks scored eight tries as they claimed their first win of the new Premiership season.

Law said: “It was a very good spectacle and the match was played at a high standard throughout.

“I don’t think anyone would have minded paying to watch the game.

“We showed improvements on the things we have been questioned about in the last three or four matches.

“We were better at making sure we finished our chances and we also defended well. I thought our set-pieces and physicality also improved dramatically.”

RGC took an early 10-point lead but Cardiff got into the game in style by scoring three tries in the space of just five minutes.

The first was a penalty try and from the restart the promising Cameron Winnett scored to put the Blue and Blacks in front. Minutes later, Ryan Wilkins touched down to put Law’s side in charge.

The crazy attacking play continued as the half drew to a close. RGC hit back with a Jordan Jones try but Cardiff soon responded with an Alun Rees sevenpointer to lead at the break 26-17.

It was more of the same for Cardiff in the second half. Sean Moore scored their fifth try of the game after good work by the forwards, but RGC’S Dion Jones soon scored to let Cardiff know they still had a game on their hands.

Morgan Allen and Alex Everett soon seized control of the game for Cardiff with tries number six and seven respectively, which gave the visitors a commanding advantage.

Cardiff ruthlessly continued the rout with a try from Ellis Bevan to take their points tally past 50.

RGC’s Sam Williams scored a try in the last play of the game to earn a bonus point for the hosts.

Law added: “RGC are not to be taken lightly.

“They are a very good side and I thought they played some decent rugby but we were comfortably the better side.

“The talent in our team is not in question. We don’t set goals, we set standards.

“We look to win every game and want to emulate our form prior to the pandemic when we were top of the league by a number of points.”
