April date on the cards for Fury and Whyte clash

-

TYSON Fury is set to defend his WBC championship against Dillian Whyte after purse bids were settled last week.

It will be an all-British heavyweight blockbuster fight, seeing two of the more explosive athletes in the division face off.

Now, a date has been all-but confirmed, with numerous reports suggesting that the fight will go ahead on April 23.

The WBC had mandated Fury to defend his heavyweight title against his fellow Brit.

However, purse bids were delayed on numerous occasions, leaving the Gypsy King frustrated as he posted his anger in the form of videos on social media.

Purse bids were finally confirmed in Mexico City on Friday with Frank Warren submitting the winning bid.

Details for the fight are yet to be announced, but it is believed it will take place in mid-April.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff had previously been touted as a potential venue, whilst Saudi Arabia has also been discussed.

Fury’s recent Twitter posts suggest that the fight will be in the UK and the Daily Mail reports the official announcement for the date and location is expected next week.

Posting on social media, Fury warned Whyte that he’s going to be ‘annihilated’ before sharing a promotional image for the fight on Instagram.

Fury wrote: “Who else can’t wait for the fight. The best of Britain.”

Fury had earlier said: “I can’t wait to punch Dillian Whyte’s face right in mate. I’m going to give him the best hiding he’s ever had in his life boy.

“Dillian Whyte, train hard sucker because you’re getting annihilated bum.”

It could be Fury’s first fight in the UK for almost four years - having had recent contests in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
