Tramshed expands into new market

ONE of Wales’ leading digital workspace businesses is expanding into Europe’s biggest indoor market redevelopment.

Tramshed Tech will be opening a new site in Newport Market next month, offering a co-working and bookable event space at the grade II listed building’s restored mezzanine.

The business incubator will also run 37 newly-renovated office units to accommodate between two and 15 people per unit.

Founded in 2016, Tramshed Tech already runs a 10,000 sq ft workspace in the historic Tramshed building in Cardiff’s Grangetown and is expanding into a number of other locations across Wales.

The company has offices in Goodsheds in Barry and is currently in the process of refurbishing the ‘Information Station’ in Newport.

Last year, the company announced that it had signed a heads of terms for development agreement with Swansea Council for the city centre’s 133-year-old Palace Theatre building. It is scheduled to open at the beginning of next year, with construction already underway.

Tramshed Tech co-founder and chief executive Louise Harris said: “Over the past five years, since opening the original Tramshed Tech hub in Grangetown, Cardiff, we have been looking for the right opportunity to extend our reach and develop our class-leading brand and service offer further across Wales.”

Ms Harris added: “These exciting new sites, starting with the opening of Newport Market followed by sites in Barry, Swansea and further central Cardiff expansion, all combine to offer a fantastic opportunity to further serve and help grow the Welsh tech and digital ecosystem.”

Mark John, co-founder and director, said: “Our rapid expansion in Wales, alongside exciting new partnerships we have developed with

UK, French and Irish partner organisations, will see Tramshed Tech working on an increasing number of levels, to provide co-working spaces, company hosting and business support services, locally, nationally and internationally.”

Newport Market reopened to the public this month following a regeneration scheme which included a £12m investment from developers LoftCo and predicted to attract 140 local independent businesses into the city centre.

“LoftCo are once again delighted to be able to provide Tramshed Tech with an innovative space and environment to work and thrive in,” said LoftCo managing director, Simon Baston.

“The Tramshed team are leading the way in Wales in terms of supporting the digital economy at every level and this business partnership, working with our great partners in the local authority, will be a further catalyst for significant SME growth,” he added.
