Children’s interests should be protected

-

PAUL V Botto (“Abortion is still an issue in local politics”, Western Mail letters, May 4) refers to more than 10,000,000 UK abortions.

As an ordained Anglican it saddens me how our “woke” bishops rarely highlight abortion. The Catholic Church deserves credit for nailing its colours to the mast on abortion. Abortion: Open Your Mouth for the Dumb, by Peter Barnes, spells out biblical arguments against abortion in a thin booklet.

I came to faith following a crisis of conscience about making abortion referrals as an NHS GP. SPUC (Society for the Protection of Unborn Children) do a superb flyer called Abortion and Coercion. It cites research suggesting 30% of women choosing abortion may have faced external pressure from others.

An image of the unborn child in the third month appears on the NHS website, Dating Scan, but Anglican magazines or parish newsletters never seem to reference or print informative pictures like this one.

Our saviour celebrated the innocence of children, clearly wanting their interests to be protected: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
