Same-sex marriage allowed in URC
IN YOUR report on same-sex church weddings in Wales discussing possible future changes in the Church in Wales, you say the first major denomination to allow gay couples to marry in church was the Scottish Episcopal Church in 2017 – something that offers little hope to gay couples in Wales.
In fact, however, the United Reformed Church, a union of Congregationalists and Presbyterians with churches in Wales, England and Scotland, voted a year earlier, in 2016, to allow its churches to marry gay couples.
From that time, many URC churches in the Wales Synod of the United Reformed Church have offered gay marriages in church, and it has become a well-established custom.
I thought any of your readers interested in the continuing debates on gay marriage in church might like to know that.
