Woman describes her 26-hour wait in Accident and Emergency as ‘barbaric’ and ‘like a warzone’

I SAT in A&E for three days, two nights bleeding. By the time I got to a ward I needed blood transfusion as I had lost so much blood. May I point out this was before Covid so I am sick of Covid being used as an excuse

PEOPLE blaming lack of money. I don’t think that is the sole issue. A lot of money is being mismanaged! Too many chiefs and not enough Indians as my Dad used to say!

IT was bad before Covid. Now Covid will be used as the excuse for an outdated and mismanaged service forever! Another way to bring in private health care instead?

MY son had to sleep on two chairs put together after he was admitted as an emergency with appendicitis. This was at the new Grange hospital. I don’t blame the staff, I blame a system that is just not fit for purpose. Closing so many hospitals and having hospitals that can’t treat emergency patients is just horrendous and barbaric conditions. He was lucky in the end because he was hours away from a burst appendix. He had fluid leaking into his cavity, extremely lucky.

MY experience of A&E at UHW was totally different. Two weeks ago I had a serious leg injury and was with the consultant within five minutes of arriving at the Trauma Unit I was treated exceptionally by him, the major trauma team and plastic surgeons and I never will be able to thank them enough!

UNTIL GPs resume normal hours, this is the state of hospitals right now. Lots of visitors to A&E do not need urgent treatment and could be seen by a GP or pharmacy assistant, most of which have consultation rooms now. NHS 111 also sends everyone to A&E which is also a problem.
