C4 newscasters have impeccable pedigree
I HAVE just come away from Channel 4 News being presented by Ciaran Jenkins alongside Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
I assume Mr Jenkins is to replace Jon Snow, who has retired from the role he filled with distinction for years. Although one were not to know it by listening to him speak, Mr Snow is descended from the Welsh PM David Lloyd George, whose own seeds were sown in Pencaer, outside Pembrokeshire’s twin towns of Fishguard and Goodwick, before being sown again in north Wales and Liverpool. In fact, there is some evidence these Georges were related to the Rees family, of which my maternal grandmother, Letitia George, was a member, as were my late mother, Greta Griffiths, and the late Glyn Rees, the late Desmond Donnelly MP’s agent.
Returning to Mr Jenkins, I must say how refreshing it was to hear a broadcaster speak English in a way that is unmistakably Welsh.
