We’ll not have enough food to feed planet

-

THE number of farms in the EU, 27 countries has fallen dramatically, in recent years, dropping from approximately 15 million, to 10 million farms, a decrease of 32%.

This trend shows no sign of slowing, at all any time soon. The EU might lose an additional 6.4 million farms by 2040, leaving 3.9 million, a 62% decrease.

The UK is not self sufficient in food production. We import 48% of the total food we consume, and the figures are rising. We rely on imports and a strong agricultural sector to feed ourselves.

The US is self-sufficient in food production.

The world wastes approximately 1.4 billion tons of food every year. The US discards more food than any other country in the world, nearly 40 million tons or £80bn every year. I find this figure to be staggering, and unacceptable, possibly unbelievable.

By 2027 the world could be facing a 214 trillion calorie deficit, says the experts, so we won’t have enough food to feed the planet.

We just hear of the value of a field a donkey sanctuary was on is a staggering £400,000.

Half of England is owned by less than 1% of the population.

The Forestry Commission, the MOD, the Crown estates, the National Trust and the National Trust for Scotland, own the most land.

What is the good of land which is too expensive? We are losing farmers. Our food security is paramount, and people need to be able to buy farms, while farmers need to pass on farms to the family.

I am afraid greedy men in Royalty have made Cornwall too expensive to buy a house, or land. How long will the earth sustain 8-10 billion people?

The moon is too expensive to explore, no air and no water. Mankind needs to look after this world, it is all we got.

Stop using the sea as a dumping ground, for waste.
