Adams the latest worry for Wales ahead of Six Nations

WARREN Gatland has been given another scare ahead of the Six Nations after Josh Adams left the field in pain with an injury.

Cardiff star Adams was clattered into by rampaging Dragon Aaron Wainwright as he slipped in the second-half of a ferocious Welsh derby at Rodney Parade.

Adams dropped to the turf in the immediate aftermath and was tended to by medics.

He then tried to run off the problem but couldn’t continue and seemed in serious pain.

Adams, who had scored a try and performed well at full-back, had his left knee heavily strapped throughout the game but the issue appeared to be with his other leg.

Coach Dai Young later suggested it was an ankle problem but hoped it wouldn’t be too serious, adding: “Hopefully it is just a matter of weeks rather than months.”

The Wales man looked deeply frustrated and annoyed as he was forced to leave the field.

Gatland is due to name his Six Nations squad in three weeks time ahead of the opening game against Ireland in Cardiff on February 4.

He is already without Will Rowlands, Gareth Anscombe and Dan

Lydiate, while a number of other players are also carrying injuries.

Lock Rowlands has confirmed he’ll miss the Six Nations due to his shoulder injury.

The Dragons star was injured in Wales’ win over Argentina in the autumn, and went under the knife to rectify the issue.

He will now be out of action until April, meaning he could have played his last game for the Gwent region. The 31-year-old has already agreed a deal to join French side Racing 92 at the end of the next season.

A spring return to action would leave him with an uphill battle to feature for the Rodney Parade side again. The final fixtures of the season before the play-offs involving the top eight sides take place on April 22.

He told Scrum V: “The shoulder is OK, It is frustrating but it is just slow and steady [on his recovery].

“Hopefully I will be involved back in rugby in April time.”
