Victim ‘saw stars’ in cable attack

-

A MAN who wrapped a phone charger cable around his partner’s neck during a row has been jailed.

Curtis Kingsbury’s victim saw stars and almost blacked out, with the incident only stopping after their child walked in and shouted at him.

The 35-year-old defendant admitted assault causing actual bodily harm on the woman and another assault on her on another occasion when a child stopped that attack too.

The judge, Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones, said he wouldn’t be doing his job properly if he didn’t send him to prison for 16 months and four months respectively for those offences.

Prosecutor Thomas McLoughlin told Caernarfon Crown Court Kingsbury had been living with his partner and children in a flat in Abergele.

One evening last August he became stressed and went to the pub but by 1am his partner became concerned about his whereabouts. He came back in the early hours.

The situation escalated and KIngsbury of Severn Road, Colwyn Bay, wrapped a phone charger cable around his partner’s neck. It was so tight she couldn’t get her fingers between the cable and her skin, said the prosecutor.

The court heard she saw “dots and stars” and felt she would black out as she was unable to breathe. The assault only stopped when her 10-year-old daughter came downstairs and shouted for Kingsbury to get away from her mother.

A second incident happened after a small house party on Boxing Day last year. The court heard at the end of the night everyone left except for Kingsbury and the children, as the same woman was walking guests home.

But when she returned, the woman found her children alone and her partner asleep in a neighbour’s house. She confronted him and he pushed her down onto a bed twice.

He then pushed her to the floor and kicked her about six times as she curled herself into a ball to protect herself, said the prosecutor. This assault again only finished when her child came into the room to tell him to stop.

She said she felt “degraded” and that her partner becomes a different person after drinking.

In a police interview, Kingsbury denied wrapping the cable around his partner’s neck and called the Boxing Day incident a “scuffle”.

Sarah Yates, defending, said Kingsbury is ashamed and remorseful. He has four children including two with the victim, and a good work ethic.
