Centre of capital is now overdeveloped

-

THE proposed new tall building in Cardiff (“Scheme all set for one of Wales’ tallest buildings”, Western Mail, June 6) will no doubt be heralded as totally carbon neutral when finished.

How many thousands of heavy lorryloads of materials though will be needed with the construction materials, all clogging up and damaging the vital ingress and egress roads into the city? Not many electric lorries about yet.

Cardiff has spent millions on bus and cycle lanes to encourage less car use while at the same time gives planning approval for ever more monstrous buildings in the city centre and the destruction of green fields in the suburbs for new housing estates. Of course housing is needed but the more a city expands it creates an ever greater gravitational pull drawing more people in. This causes even more demand for jobs, housing, social services, NHS treatment, etc, so back to square one. There lies the problem.

The council has to go through the motions then rubber stamps most planning schemes because if not it will just get sued by the developers or overridden by the Senedd, which couldn’t care less about the capital as long as it brings in money to finance itself.

I just think Cardiff is overdeveloped enough now in the centre and hopefully no more agricultural land will be taken in the green belt or swallowed up with new roads as Britain can’t even feed itself now. Transporting our food supplies across vast oceans is madness and almost saw the end of Britain in the past.
